Kevin Murphy

Kevin Murphy brings more than three decades of airport law-enforcement, security, and emergency-management experience to Salus Solutions. He spent 27 years at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, beginning as a police officer in 1992. He rose through patrol, investigations, and administration before becoming Police Chief in 2005. As Chief, he led more than 100 sworn and civilian employees, managed airport policing and security operations, oversaw the 911 communications center, and served as CVG's Airport Security Coordinator. He retired from the police department in 2014 and continued serving CVG as its Emergency Operations Manager.

Murphy's second career at CVG focused on what happens when normal airport operations fail. He brought separate emergency plans, agencies, and response functions into a coordinated program, managed the Emergency Operations Center, trained its personnel, and designed exercises to test how the airport would respond under pressure. By 2018, CVG had developed a mobile Emergency Response Plan system that gave airport personnel rapid access to procedures for events ranging from severe weather and evacuation to medical emergencies, acts of violence, bomb threats, security breaches, and power failures. Murphy was the airport official responsible for that emergency-management program.

His influence extends beyond one airport. Murphy served on the Airport Law Enforcement Agencies Network board before becoming its president in 2013. In that role, he testified before the U.S. House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation Security following the 2013 LAX shooting, addressing airport policing, active threats, public-area security, and the relationship between airport law enforcement and TSA. He also represented airport police leadership on TSA National Explosives Detection Canine Team Program Quality Action Teams and participated in national efforts involving airport public-area security and emergency recovery. Today, he serves as ALEAN's Executive Director, representing airport law-enforcement agencies and working with government and aviation partners on security policy and practice.

Murphy is a graduate of the 201st session of the FBI National Academy, the U.S. Secret Service Dignitary Protection Class, and Kentucky's School of Strategic Leadership. At Salus, he applies that experience to airport law enforcement, emergency management, security planning, exercises, and aviation preparedness. His work is built around a simple idea: airports are complicated on an ordinary day. When something goes wrong, everyone must know who is in charge, what must happen next, and how to keep the airport moving.
